WHO WE ARE AND OUR BELIEFS
Save Colorado Summers is a statewide coalition of parents, teachers and community members disappointed with the ever-earlier start to the school year. Our mission is to educate consumers of the education system, taxpayers and other interested people about the negative impact the early-August school start date and nontraditional school calendars have on our students, teachers and families. It is our hope that we can work with parents, school districts and elected officials to help establish educationally and fiscally sound school calendars; a school calendar that allows more money to flow into teachers' salaries, classroom supplies and educational services ... without a heavier tax burden on Colorado families.

Did You Know
- The top ten states for education in the US start around Labor Day and take their first semester tests after the Holiday break.
- State legislatures such as Texas, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Carolina and Michigan have mandated a later August start date.
- No academic benefit exits for early start dates.
- Starting school in August does not mean there are more educational days. By starting school in early September we will continue to go the same amount of days that we have in the past. There will just be fewer 1 and 2 day interruptions through out the school year.
- Typically, August is one of the hottest months of the year in Colorado and schools are seeing fuel and energy costs rising, thus cooling schools in August is more expensive than cooling it in September.
- The early August start date cuts family time short!
